Disposition:
Graham Specter has the presence of an oncoming tornado, a terrifying charisma that draws people in, even if it’s just because he’s talking so much and so fast that you can’t help but listen. He loves to talk, narrate and philosophize to anyone, often prefacing with "Let me tell you a sad/happy story". He practically never shuts up, managing to go on about anything. It does tend to be about himself and his feelings on something, and how tragic and/or uplifting this subject is.
It’s clear from listening to him even briefly, however, that Graham far from normal. His rants easily turn from soaring and heartfelt speeches, to depressed diatribes in just moments. Graham also doesn’t just talk with his mouth - he’s always moving, never sitting still for long. Speeches come with grand gestures, juggling his giant wrench like it weighs nothing, or draping himself on his friends. Despite how obviously unhinged and unpredictable he is, his gang mates loyally follow him. His energy is admirable, his strength and speed awe-inspiring. Graham is keenly observant, especially in battle. He’s loyal and friendly with his gang, but won’t hesitate to show them who’s boss with the end of his wrench if he doesn’t like what they say or do. It’s easy to see how he’s collected himself a gang, and why the rival mafioso regard them as a threat. Graham is a force of nature, and it’s better to be with him than against him.
Graham is surprisingly well-read, and often references history, literature and mythology. His frantic mind has a hard time keeping the facts straight, as he’ll scramble details from stories together. He loves philosophizing, going on about the nature of people, or their place in the universe. He will change his outlooks and attitudes towards these quickly, depending on his mood, even in the same breath. He tends towards nihilism, not having much of self-worth. In Man in the Killer, his tangent theme is him referring to himself as an "enemy of humanity". One can infer that Graham has been well-educated, but considering he had started working at the auto factory still a teenager, he probably never finished schooling, or started there soon after.
Graham was born to disassemble and destroy (see Abilities section), but machines aren't the only thing he takes apart. Despite his size, he is a viciously strong fighter, and incredibly fast - so fast, he can knock a bullet out of the air with his wrench. He won’t hesitate to turn to violence at a moment’s notice, and his blood-stained wrench is proof of this. Get him riled up enough and he'll let loose with everything he's got, his movements so fast they're too blurry to be followed. But Graham will never kill anyone, stating that life is too pointless, that taking it from someone is not his right, and it only makes him feel guilty. Instead, he "dismantles" people, dislocating their joints with his wrench. He can do it to every one on the body in seconds, leaving his target totally disabled and in excruciating pain. He uses the wrench defensively, grabbing an opponent's appendage with it as they attack. Graham is very experienced with how this works. His desire for destruction stems back to when he was a child, and would take apart things around the house. In order to get him to stop and consider his actions, his exasperated parents asked to think about how the objects he destroyed felt, and how would he feel if someone took him apart. Taking this to heart, Graham did the same to all of his own joints so that he would know exactly how it felt. Due to this, he came to better understand his own abilities. His unwillingness to kill also ties into how he is able to hold back when fighting others, making sure that he only disables them. When unleashing his full power, his opponents are even more shocked and terrified by him. He won't kill, but he certainly doesn't care about how much he can hurt someone.
While Graham is extremely volatile and dangerous, he is also completely genuine and sincere, open and honest with his thoughts and feelings as he loudly expresses them to the world. He almost never lies to his friends, and often takes them at face value even when they’re lying to him, in surprisingly naïve fashion. However, this doesn't really extend to people he doesn't know or dislikes. He also falls into near-hero worship when it comes to those he truly idolizes. None comes higher than Ladd Russo, the bloodthirsty mob hitman from Graham’s home city of Chicago. Ladd is very fond of Graham and treats him like a little brother, and is strangely respectful of Graham's no-kill policy.
Suitability:
Graham's trusting nature leaves him to be quite impressionable. He's going to be a nightmarish force of chaos until the day he dies, but the right friends and the right paths can harness that energy for their own devices - whether that's for their own safety, something nefarious, whatever. Someone this dangerous falls outside of normal society, and he'll probably end back up in a life in the underworld, but it's not a given. The people he tends to idolize, like Ladd, are also dangerous criminals, whose strength and personas fill him with awe. He will most likely feel this way with some of his fellow Ruby gembonds, unless they give him a hard time. His path in this setting will be wide open to him, and he's self-aware enough to recognize this.
Synchrony probably won't trouble him as much as it probably should. Graham is outgoing and won't hesitate to lavish physical attention on his friends, although he's not always gentle about it. Most of his gang back home are used to dealing with Graham draping himself all over them, or in the case of a guy like Shaft, punches to the gut if he sasses Graham. Any suggestion of physical contact beyond that, though, will probably get a lot of sputtering ranting from Graham has he blushes behind his long hair. Anyone brave enough to try and seduce him will probably need to be superhumanly strong to make it out with their joints intact!
Graham will be absolutely fascinated with the settings and natives of the game. He will feel truly blessed and undeserving to see such sights and will be sure to tell every native he can this. The idea of getting to disassemble new and unfamiliar things in a brand new world will surely bring him to happy tears over and over. The idea of shape shifting or transforming may be a little freaky and off-putting to him at first, unless it makes him more powerful, and eventually he'd learn to relish in it.
Condition upon arrival:
Perfectly healthy!
Abilities:
Destruction is what Graham was born to do, and he takes absolute joy in taking things apart. Putting them back together is rarely his concern. For example, in just two years at the auto factory, it’s said that he has dismantled over 3000 cars. He disassembles one in front of Ladd while he talks to him, in a manner of moments. He’ll toss things in the air and have them broken down before they can hit the ground. His destruction isn't the random chaos as his mind would have you think, as he always has everything he takes apart laid out in neat piles, usually in the order from which it was disassembled. Graham’s friend Smith, an assassin, gives Graham five guns that he had been asking for. Smith hadn’t known why Graham of all people would want guns, but should have known better. No sooner does he hand them over that Graham has them in pieces on the table in front of them, elated and ever grateful from getting to disassemble something new.
He is superhumanly strong and fast that it's a shock that he's not actually superhuman. He's so fast he can knock bullets back at their shooter, or catch them with his large wrench. He can shatter concrete with it, but also gently and carefully dismantle delicate things with it, or use it to grab someone by the throat without crushing them. He's shown to even be able to throw cars with enough force. He's a shrewd, sharp fighter who is skilled at reading his opponent's moves. He knows enough about the human anatomy in order to dislocate the right joints to disable his opponents completely. His constant mood switches keep his opponents confused as to what he might do next. There are a few characters in Baccano! who've beaten Graham in fights, but not many. Graham doesn't see it as defeat as much as he does as an opportunity to fight them again someday.
